Frankenstein Dinosaur Pumpkin Fold Card Craft for Kids

    Halloween paper craft tutorial

Make a cute Frankenstein dinosaur pumpkin fold card with Leonardo Saurobridge hiding inside a jack-o’-lantern. Kids color the pumpkin, fold the top down, then open the card to reveal a Halloween science-lab surprise.

This Leonardo design is inspired by Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, the classic novel written by Mary Shelley and first published in 1818. We translated the spooky literature idea into a child-friendly paper craft: Leo has little bolts, stitched scar details, a lab potion, and a lightning-attracting device, so the activity can become a gentle “learn while coloring” conversation about invention, electricity, stories, and imagination.

In the original Frankenstein story, a scientist uses experimental knowledge to bring a creature to life. In our kid-safe version, Leonardo becomes a cheerful classroom-friendly lab creation powered by pretend lightning, pumpkin magic, and bright crayons. This tutorial is a spoke article for our full Halloween Dinosaur Surprise Pumpkin Fold Cards PDF bundle. The video shows the Leonardo Frankenstein version, while the download includes the full set of dinosaur Halloween designs plus full-page, half-page, and design-your-own options.

What Is a Surprise Pumpkin Fold Card?

A surprise pumpkin fold card is a printable coloring craft with three visual parts. The top pumpkin folds down to meet the bottom pumpkin, so the closed card looks like one complete jack-o’-lantern. When children lift the fold, the hidden middle section appears and reveals the character inside.

That simple reveal makes the printable feel more exciting than a regular coloring page. Children still get the calming coloring activity, but the finished result becomes a little paper toy, classroom display, or take-home Halloween card.

Step 2: Color the Pumpkin and the Science-Lab Dinosaur

Color the jack-o’-lantern first, then color Leonardo’s Frankenstein details: green dinosaur skin, stitched marks, bolts, potion bottle and lightning device. This is a good moment to explain that Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is a story about invention, responsibility and a creature brought to life by experiment.

Use crayons, colored pencils or markers to bring Leonardo's Frankenstein lab details to life.

Step 3: Cut Out the Card

Use child-safe scissors to cut around the outside rectangle of the printable. Keep the dashed fold lines visible. If a child is still learning scissors, an adult can cut the border while the child handles coloring and folding.

Cut around the outside edge with child-safe scissors so the card keeps its rectangle shape and fold lines.

Step 4: Fold the Top Pumpkin Down

Fold along the upper dashed line so the top pumpkin moves down toward the lower dashed line. Press the crease firmly. The top and bottom pumpkin halves should meet like one closed jack-o’-lantern.

Step 5: Open the Card and Tell the Frankenstein Story

Lift the folded pumpkin to reveal Leonardo. Invite children to spot the bolts, stitches, potion and lightning device, then describe what kind of friendly experiment brought this dinosaur character to life.

    More Halloween Craft Tips

Use lighter colors on the folded pumpkin area if children want the dashed line to stay visible. For a classroom group, keep the first fold simple and slow: fold, press, open, and close again. Once children understand the mechanism, they can decorate the outside with stars, ghosts, leaves, candy or their own Halloween background.
